We all have that one friend that is so naturally photogenic that it almost becomes a secret game to catch them off guard and snap a pic, only to find out that they’re even more good looking. Trust me, my friends seemed to have mastered this art, and let me tell you, that it isn’t easy.
Nick is one of those guys. He’s a sweetheart as sweethearts can be and is just so gracious in the most professional way possible. That being said, outside of this shoot, I’ve tried playing this secret game where I’d try to take candid photos of him off guard, and to no surprise, they all came out looking like potential profile pictures on pretty much any social media platform.
Believe it or not, Nick and I grew up in the same hometown but we never actually met until college. It was by pure coincidence, but the timing could not have been any better. He’s become a great friend that genuinely becomes that sense of the word. Ask anyone, he’s instantly likable and is one of the most down to earth people you’ll meet.
We met up downtown in the next city over to take photos for him to update his profile on LinkedIn, so my approach had to be less of a fashion shoot, but more formal while showcasing his personality. This teetering balance of creative professionalism was new to me, because the photos had to leave a confident impression to any potential employer, while not crossing any line that may jeopardize that.
Editing-wise, I wanted to emphasize warm colors and bright tones to show Nick as honest as possible. No dramatic shadows, per se, and nothing that seemed too moody. I wanted to be able to convey that he’s approachable and also charismatic in the way he carries himself, which is totally true to who he is in person. As such, each edit where he was formally posed, had to echo this sensibility. The set you see below is both a combination of this concept while also adding some photos in creative poses just for my own sake.
You can’t blame me, he’s wearing a suit. It’s like a GQ shoot waiting to happen.
