July 2020
As with the previous installment in the black and white portrait series, I wanted to focus on capturing more controlled images with people I’ve worked before. Reconnecting with Ashley for the shoot was a ton of fun for what was, now, our third shoot. She has a great camera presence where she is able to play into the drama of this session, this go-around.
Much like before, keeping a black background helps maintain the focus on the subject, with the lighting doing the heavy lifting in providing a highlight around Ashley. I wanted to keep a one point lighting scheme like before, as it allows me to control the depth of the shadows without having everything look too polished, like a more traditional fashion shoot. Perhaps in the future I’ll experiment with a three-point scheme and see how it changes the dynamic of the portraits.
