Caiti

March 2020

Writing this entry exactly five years later, in March of 2025, it’s crazy to think how much has changed since this shoot. Caiti, for those who don’t know, is my loving wife but at this time of this shoot, we had just started officially dating, so consider these photos my way of trying to impress my would-be wife while also being incredibly nervous.

The work you’re seeing, composed behind her, are all painted by her. On our first few dates, we spoke a lot about our individual crafts, and it was such a rare conversation to have since I had no idea what to ask about her work, but she was so gracious and patient to explain. It was then where I really got to know her. She went to school and got her masters in art, focusing on these incredible, large scale, abstract pieces that I highly recommend for you to see in person since a photo of any of her work doesn’t do them justice. As such, this shoot was the first time I stepped into her studio, and it was at that moment, in the midst of these sweepingly gorgeous art pieces, that I knew Caiti was the real deal.

With this shoot, the hardest part was the editing process since the color grade can’t be too fancy since, in principle, it would alter the specific colors that Caiti had intended for her work. Instead, the idea was to just emphasize lightly warm tones through the lighting. Still, Caiti truly looks at home in this space, though she’s since moved in to a much larger studio a few doors down, but I wanted to capture the essence of her personality in an environment where she’s in her element.

As my wife, and collaborative partner, she has been an incredible supporter in the ideas that I have, and has always told it to me straight when it came to constructive feedback. To have someone that loves to talk about art and get cerebral with it has been a great gift, especially with someone as knowledgeable as her. Not only that, but she’s so attentive, kind, and resourceful. When you speak to her about her work, you truly grasp that perspective of her and the approach she has with each new piece.
