Back on Track
After really enjoying the working dynamic we had with one another, I reached out to Bernie and Ashley and began setting our next meet up. There was an entire list we had put together and we wanted to check off as many boxes as possible, but couldn’t due to time constraints, the last time around.
Much like our shoot, a few months prior, Bernie and Ashley gave a few ideas of where they’d like to set the next session at. This helps, as it sort of puts them in their element since they know the look they want to go for. As a photographer, this responsibility normally falls under my jurisdiction and I have to conceptualize the whole aesthetic, but it always helps when the communication is open between all parties involved.
Our primary locations were set on these railroad tracks, downtown from where we lived, and FoodMax, also in the area. Both were a challenge in their own right. On one hand, the railroad tracks had harsh natural light that beat down on the scene, so the trick was to work around the shadows that were being created. On the other, we didn’t really want to get in trouble, as we took photos in carts which was tough, in and of itself, to get Ashley inside said cart. Fortunately, no managers were called, and there was a nice shady area by the tracks with some foliage to give some texture to the girls’ outfits.
The main theme was to capture this liberating feeling that is normally associated with summer. So I wanted to go with vibrant, warm tones, to give this young, timeless ambiance to the images. What better way to be timeless, than to climb into a shopping cart and struggle to get out?
