Phil and Amanda

3.21.18

Like a stillness in silence, a profound understanding finds itself through the entropy of life. It is when we look into the eyes of another person that we become able to find a sense of purpose in out connection with each other.

This is very much the case of Phil and Amanda. I've known them for a considerable amount of time, and there is something deep and genuine in the way that they look at each other. Even if you were to just meet them, it's not hard to see the mutual respect and love that they share.

I was grateful that they had asked me to take their photos for their engagement. We had discussed, several days prior, of locations they'd be interested to take their photos. Eventually, we had decided to head to the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Sacramento.

Upon arrival, we had the great fortune of being allowed to enter the church, with no other people around. I've taken photos in here before, and it tends to be packed, so this was definitely a blessing for us to have had this opportunity. For this photoshoot, I wanted to encapsulate their adoration for their faith, and their connection to each other. Of course, for every couple, the latter is always an important component for engagement sessions, but because their love for God resonates in all that they do, it only made sense to incorporate that as well.

There is a feeling of warmth and comfort in knowing that the roads we embark upon our lives is walked upon by someone else beside us. This trust, when traveling to a point that seems ambiguous into the future, is vital and we must allow ourselves to be vulnerable in order to get there together. I like to believe that marriage, or any relationship for that matter, is never one leading the other. Instead, it's always an effort led by both parties, to ensure that neither one falls behind, but instead, moves forward as one.
