The session below was taken last year, about a month after my last engagement shoot with my friends, Alvin and Maureen. We had talked about setting another appointment soon after, to include Maureen’s son, Jaden as well. After all, Jaden is an important part of their marriage and to do another shoot that would incorporate him was a no-brainer.
If the first shoot was set in a lighthouse and other concrete structures, we definitely made the conscious effort to differentiate the second session this time around. Instead, we wanted to find a location more nature-centric, and the local hiking trail near us was a nice choice as it offered wide dramatic spaces for me to compose them. Mind you, this was taken in the middle of July, so most of the grass was dried but it contrasted nicely with the lush green tones in the trees, and more importantly, their outfits.
In retrospect, I still really liked the idea of juxtaposing the theme of love against a dry location. That sort of imagery, to me, seems to resonate as an enduring sort of love. Most shots, of the three of them, has them together, making physical contact whether if that’s through a hand on the shoulder or Maureen’s arms lovingly wrapped around Alvin. In a way, this shows that despite all odds, all three of them will have each other through this journey. That’s all we can really ask for in this life, and I think it’s a nice message that I hope speaks through the images.
