Back when I began taking photos around 2014, I was, honestly, really hesitant in getting my feet wet when it came to wedding photography. I suppose the weight of those expectations were intimidating. Yet, I found that to be the most exhilarating part with these sort of events, in that I only have a very small, fast paced window to capture what the client needs in the most creative fashion possible. No time to waste on adjusting my settings. No opportunity to tell people pose, when most of the best shots come from the candidness of the moment. More importantly, there were no second chances to redo the first kiss or anything.
Enter, JR, one of my good friends from my local church, and his trust in me to hire me as the photographer for his brother, Michael's wedding. JR had always been someone that I had looked up to, and the fact that he decided to ask me with a big momentous occasion, when I had little to no experience prior, is definitely a lot of faith, not to mention pressure. I agreed, on the basis of his trust, and for the opportunity to handle my first wedding on my own, mainly to see what I was capable of.
My work has come along since then, and as I look back at this wedding, and I'm proud with how it turned out. The natural lighting in San Francisco's City Hall is dramatic and brings out really nice shadows that provides subtextual weight to a lot of the photos I took. Michael and Ruth were so warm and welcoming as a couple, and I was honored to have been there to witness their union together.
